Computers are incredibly useful tools. Everyone should frequently review the way they use them as there are often more efficient ways to work that will save time and decrease the annoyance factor. These pages mention some things I find useful, many relate to Thunderbird & Firefox and so are cross platform but DQSD & the software mentioned are mostly for the Windows OS.
DQSD is my most used productivity tool. These days people seem to use goggle rather than bookmarks but for any websites you search frequently / login too, dqsd is a must in my book. If I use a computer without it my productivity decreases, simple as that. Here are some searches/logins I have added for it as well as some faq additions. I always hear people say stuff like I was only gone for 4 days and I came back to 300 emails in my inbox. There is not an inbox which would not benefit from using message filtering/tagging.
If you are still surfing with IE it's like riding a bike with your hands tied behind your back. Firefox will change the way you surf. A handy feature is clicking Ctrl+Enter when you have typed something in the address bar and it will add http://www and .com to the word.
It's been great since it first started as Phoenix in 2002 and has been designed in such a way that extensions can be added and there are many of them out there. If you think of something you do when surfing repeatedly, there probably is an extension to make you more productive. Here are the extensions which I use which very creatively enhance your browsing experience.

I'm always on the lookout for some software to make me more productive, here's some software, I find invaluable.
Do you like to assign a cool sound to your email notification but then don't want this booming across your speakers when you are playing music. ESounder 
allows you to set a default email arrival sound which you can toggle on and off. It runs in the system tray for easy access. If you are concerned about the memory footprint you can have a shortcut in the quick launch menu and you can shut it down from the tray when the toggle is complete.

Here's 
an installable for Mobiusware's excellent VSSLockedFiles, which opens a list in IE of all the files checked out per user. The setup looks for the Visual source safe database location and login information and creates a shortcut to run VSSLockedFiles.
